Possible Causes
Stuck water level float, failed water level sensor, mineral buildup on float guide, disconnected or damaged float switch wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before removing any covers or reaching inside the water reservoir.
- Check water level: Ensure the reservoir is filled to the correct MAX line with clean, potable water. Low water can trigger E2 on some Igloo models.
- Inspect the float: Open the lid and locate the plastic float or water level probe in the reservoir. Make sure it moves freely up and down and is not stuck by scale, slime, or debris.
- Clean the float and reservoir: Drain the unit. Mix a solution of warm water and white vinegar (1:1). Wipe the float, float guide, and reservoir walls. Move the float up and down to free it. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Check float switch wiring: On models with a float switch, remove the side or rear panel to access the float switch harness. Confirm the connector is firmly attached to the control board and that wires are not broken or corroded.
- Test the float switch (advanced): Disconnect the float switch and use a multimeter in continuity mode. Move the float up and down; you should see the switch open and close. If there is no change, the switch is faulty.
- Replace faulty parts: If the float or switch is damaged, replace with an Igloo-compatible water level sensor/float switch assembly. Install in the same orientation and reconnect wiring.
- Reset and test: Reassemble, refill with water, plug in, and run a full cycle to confirm the E2 code is cleared.
