Possible Causes

Main control board failure, corrupted firmware, loose board connectors, shorted component on PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before accessing the control board. Avoid touching board components with wet hands or metal tools.

  • Power cycle: Unplug the unit for at least 15 minutes to fully discharge the board. Plug back in and attempt to start a cycle.
  • Inspect control board connections: Remove the rear or side panel to access the PCB. Check that all harness connectors are fully seated and locked. Look for any burnt spots or obvious damage on the board.
  • Check for moisture: Ensure there is no condensation or water on the board. If present, dry gently with a hair dryer on low heat (unit unplugged) and allow to sit until completely dry.
  • Secure wiring: Make sure harnesses are not pulling on the board or partially disconnected. Reseat each connector one at a time.
  • Replace control board if needed: If E6 persists and all sensors, motors, and wiring test good, the main PCB is likely defective. Order the correct Igloo control board for your model, transfer any mounting hardware, and reconnect all harnesses exactly as original.
  • Test operation: After replacement, run several ice cycles to confirm normal operation and that E6 does not reappear.
