Possible Causes
Dirty reservoir, mold or biofilm in water lines, use of unfiltered tap water, new plastic odor from internal parts
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before cleaning. Do not use harsh chemicals that are not food-safe.
- Discard old ice: Empty the ice basket and discard any ice with off-odors.
- Deep clean: Drain the reservoir. Clean the reservoir, ice tray, and bin with a mixture of warm water and mild dish soap, followed by a rinse with a vinegar solution (1:1 water and white vinegar). Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Clean water lines: Run a cleaning cycle with vinegar solution if your Igloo model supports it, then flush with at least two full reservoirs of fresh water, discarding the ice.
- Use better water: Switch to filtered or bottled water to reduce chlorine and mineral tastes.
- Odor control: When not in use, empty the unit, dry the interior, and leave the lid slightly open to prevent musty odors.
