Possible Causes

Infrequent cleaning, warm stagnant water, poor ventilation when stored

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit. Wear gloves if mold is extensive.

  • Drain and disassemble: Remove the ice basket and drain all water from the reservoir.
  • Scrub surfaces: Clean all accessible surfaces with warm water and mild detergent, then scrub with a soft brush and a vinegar solution to remove biofilm.
  • Sanitize: Mix a food-safe sanitizer or a weak bleach solution (1 tablespoon unscented bleach per gallon of water). Wipe surfaces, then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Dry completely: Allow the unit to air dry with the lid open before refilling.
  • Regular maintenance: Clean the unit at least once a month, or more often in warm climates.
