Ice maker powers on but compressor does not start, unit stays at room temperature

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before accessing the compressor compartment. Avoid damaging refrigerant lines.

• Access compressor area: Remove the rear lower panel of the Ikea ice maker (usually metal, held by screws). Locate the black, dome-shaped compressor and the plastic start device/overload assembly attached to its side.
• Check start relay/PTC: Gently pull off the start device from the compressor terminals. Shake it lightly; if it rattles or smells burnt, it is likely bad. Inspect for discoloration or melted plastic. Replace the compressor start relay/PTC with a compatible Ikea/Whirlpool-type part.
• Test compressor windings: With a multimeter set to ohms, measure resistance between the three compressor pins (C, S, R). You should read low but finite resistance between each pair and no continuity to ground. If windings are open or shorted to ground, the compressor is defective and requires professional replacement.
• Inspect control board relay: Trace the compressor wires back to the main control board. Look for a burnt or stuck relay. If the board shows damage or does not send power to the compressor when cooling is requested, replace the main control board.
• Reassemble and test: Reinstall the start device, secure the rear panel, plug in the unit, and set it to ice-making mode. If the compressor still does not start, contact a refrigeration technician.
