Ice maker runs but does not produce ice, evaporator plate does not frost

Safety first: Unplug the unit before cleaning coils or removing panels. Refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician.

• Check condenser airflow: Pull the Ikea ice maker away from the wall. Remove the rear panel if present. Inspect the condenser coil (radiator-like tubing) for dust and lint. Clean thoroughly with a soft brush and vacuum. Ensure the condenser fan spins freely and is not obstructed.
• Verify fan operation: Plug the unit back in and observe the condenser fan while the compressor is running. If the fan does not run, replace the condenser fan motor.
• Inspect evaporator plate: Open the ice bin area and observe the stainless evaporator plate or grid after 10–15 minutes of operation. It should develop an even frost pattern. If only a small section frosts or no frost appears, the system may be low on refrigerant or restricted.
• Do not attempt to add refrigerant yourself: Ikea ice makers use sealed refrigeration systems. If you suspect a sealed system issue (weak cooling, partial frost, hissing at joints), contact a certified refrigeration technician to check for leaks, evacuate, and recharge the system.
• Confirm water supply: Ensure the water inlet is functioning; lack of water can mimic no-ice symptoms even if cooling is fine.
