Possible Causes
Seized fan motor, obstructed fan blade, failed fan motor winding, faulty control board fan driver
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before reaching into any fan area.
- Locate the fan: Depending on the Ikea model, there may be a condenser fan at the rear and/or an internal circulation fan near the evaporator. Remove the appropriate panel to access.
- Check for obstructions: Inspect the fan blades for ice buildup, plastic packaging, or wiring harnesses rubbing against the blade. Clear any obstruction and spin the blade by hand; it should move freely.
- Test fan motor: With the fan disconnected, measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. Replace the fan motor assembly if defective.
- Inspect wiring and connectors: Ensure the fan harness is fully seated on the control board and at the motor. Look for burnt or loose pins.
- Control board check: If the motor tests good but never receives voltage when the compressor is running, the control board fan output may be faulty. Replace the main control board if necessary.
- Reassemble and test: Refit panels, restore power, and verify that the fan runs during cooling.
