Possible Causes

Failed harvest motor, defective hot gas solenoid valve, faulty harvest thermostat, wiring issue to harvest assembly

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before accessing the evaporator and harvest mechanism. Surfaces may be sharp.

  • Observe harvest cycle: During normal operation, the unit briefly warms the evaporator plate (hot gas or heater) and a harvest motor or sweep arm pushes ice into the bin. If ice remains stuck, the harvest system is not working.
  • Check harvest motor: Locate the harvest motor near the evaporator plate or mechanical sweep arm. Inspect for broken gears or stripped shafts. Test motor resistance; replace the harvest motor assembly if open or seized.
  • Inspect hot gas valve (if equipped): Some Ikea ice makers use a hot gas solenoid valve to warm the plate. Access the valve near the compressor. Check coil resistance and wiring. Replace the hot gas valve if the coil is open or the valve is stuck.
  • Test harvest thermostat/sensor: A thermostat or sensor tells the board when ice is ready to harvest. Check for secure mounting and continuity. Replace if readings are out of specification.
  • Clear ice and reset: Manually remove stuck ice with a plastic tool (never metal). Restore power and run a test harvest cycle.
