E10
Ikea Ice Bin Level Sensor or Shutoff Arm Failure

E10 error, ice bin is full but unit continues to run and overfills bin

Possible Causes

Stuck ice level arm, dirty optical ice level sensor, failed bin switch, disconnected sensor harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before working near moving parts or sensors.

  • Identify level control type: Ikea ice makers may use a mechanical shutoff arm or an optical sensor to detect bin fullness.
  • Mechanical arm: If there is a plastic or metal arm above the bin, ensure it moves freely up and down. Clear any ice blocking its movement. If the arm is broken or loose, replace the ice level arm assembly.
  • Optical sensor: If there are two facing lenses on opposite bin walls, clean them gently with a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner. Do not scratch the lenses.
  • Check bin switch: Some models have a micro-switch activated by the bin position. Inspect the switch lever and wiring. Test continuity when the bin is in place; replace the switch if it does not change state.
  • Harness and board: Verify that the ice level sensor harness is firmly connected to the main control board. If the sensor and wiring are good but the unit ignores bin-full condition, the control board may be faulty.
