Possible Causes
Blocked condenser coil, failed condenser fan, high ambient temperature, faulty compressor overload protector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker and allow the compressor to cool before touching it.
- Clean condenser coil: Move the unit away from the wall. Remove the rear panel and thoroughly clean the condenser coil with a brush and vacuum. Ensure there is at least several centimeters of clearance around the unit for airflow.
- Check condenser fan: Confirm the fan spins freely and runs whenever the compressor is on. Replace the condenser fan motor if it is noisy, seized, or not running.
- Inspect overload protector: The overload device is usually clipped to the compressor terminal cover. Remove and test it for continuity at room temperature. Replace if open or heat-damaged.
- Ambient conditions: Ensure the ice maker is not installed in a confined cabinet without ventilation or near a heat source (oven, radiator). Improve ventilation if needed.
- Re-test: After cleaning and replacing parts, reset the unit by unplugging for 5 minutes, then run a full cycle while monitoring compressor temperature.
