Possible Causes

Stuck mechanical float, Failed water level sensor, Mineral buildup on sensor, Loose sensor wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before removing covers or reaching inside the water reservoir area.

  • Empty and clean the reservoir: Remove all water and wipe the reservoir with a soft cloth. Check for debris or scale around the float or sensor area.
  • Locate the float or sensor: On many Insignia countertop ice makers, a plastic float or electronic probe sits in the reservoir. Make sure the float moves freely up and down.
  • Descale the sensor: If you see white mineral deposits, soak a cloth in a 1:1 mix of white vinegar and water and gently clean the float and sensor surfaces. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Check wiring: From the reservoir area, trace the sensor wires to the control board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and not corroded.
  • Reset and test: Refill with clean water (preferably filtered), plug in, and restart. If E2 returns immediately, the sensor assembly is likely defective and should be replaced.
