Possible Causes

Jammed ice tray, Stripped tray motor gears, Failed tray position sensor, Obstruction from oversized ice cubes

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before attempting to move the ice tray or motor by hand.

  • Inspect the tray area: Open the lid and look for large or fused ice blocks preventing the tray from rotating. Remove loose ice with your hand; do not use metal tools on plastic parts.
  • Defrost jammed ice: If the tray is frozen solid, leave the lid open and unit unplugged for 30–45 minutes until the ice loosens. You can place a towel under the unit to catch drips.
  • Gently move the tray: Once thawed, gently rotate the tray by hand to feel for binding. It should move smoothly without grinding noises.
  • Check the tray motor and sensor wiring: Remove the side or bottom panel to access the tray motor assembly. Ensure the motor connector and any position sensor plug are fully seated.
  • Restart the unit: Plug in and run a cycle. If E4 returns and the tray does not move, the tray motor or position sensor is likely defective and should be replaced as an assembly.
