Possible Causes
Overheated compressor, Blocked condenser airflow, Faulty temperature sensor near compressor, Control board protection circuit trip
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool before further inspection.
- Improve ventilation: Move the ice maker away from walls and heat sources (ovens, direct sunlight). Ensure several inches of clearance on all sides.
- Clean vents and condenser: Use a vacuum and soft brush to remove dust from intake and exhaust vents and any exposed condenser coil.
- Allow cool-down: Leave the unit unplugged for at least 30–60 minutes to let the compressor and electronics cool.
- Check ambient temperature: Insignia ice makers are designed for indoor use; if room temperature is very high (above ~90°F/32°C), move the unit to a cooler location.
- Restart and monitor: Plug in and run a cycle. If E9 reappears quickly, the overtemperature sensor or control board may be faulty and require replacement.
