Possible Causes
Failed electronic control board, loose or burned wire harness at control, blown internal fuse on control board, shorted user interface keypad
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker or switch off the dedicated circuit breaker before removing any panels.
- Check power supply: Verify the outlet has 120 VAC using a multimeter. Reset any tripped GFCI or breaker.
- Inspect power cord: Pull the unit out carefully and check the KitchenAid power cord for cuts, burns, or loose plug blades. Replace if damaged.
- Access control board: Remove the top or rear access panel (depending on model) to reach the main control board. Look for burned spots, swollen components, or a blown onboard fuse.
- Check harness connections: Reseat all wire harness plugs to the control board and user interface. Ensure locking tabs click into place.
- Test incoming voltage: With power restored and extreme caution, verify that line voltage is present at the control board L and N terminals. If voltage is present but the board is dead, the board is likely faulty.
- Replace control board: If the board shows visible damage or no output to the user interface, replace the KitchenAid electronic control board with the exact part number from the model's parts list.
