Possible Causes
Partially clogged water inlet valve screen, restricted water supply line, failed water level sensor, scaled water reservoir
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off water supply and disconnect power before working on the water system.
- Check water pressure: Ensure the household water supply to the KitchenAid ice maker is fully open and has adequate pressure (typically 20–120 psi).
- Inspect inlet screen: Remove the water inlet valve and check the inlet screen for sediment. Clean gently with a soft brush; do not puncture the screen.
- Flush supply line: Disconnect the supply line and flush into a bucket to clear debris.
- Clean reservoir: Remove and clean the water reservoir and float area with a manufacturer-approved ice machine cleaner to remove mineral buildup.
- Test water level sensor: Some KitchenAid models use an electronic water level sensor. Inspect the sensor and wiring; replace if corroded or if resistance/voltage readings are out of spec per the tech sheet.
- Replace inlet valve: If the valve coil tests open or does not open when energized, replace the KitchenAid water inlet valve.
