Possible Causes
Stuck float switch, failed water level sensor, shorted control board water fill relay, debris preventing float from dropping
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and shut off the water supply immediately to prevent flooding.
- Inspect float mechanism: Locate the water reservoir float or float switch. Check for scale, slime, or debris that may be preventing free movement.
- Clean float: Remove the float and clean with warm water and mild detergent or ice machine cleaner. Ensure it moves freely up and down.
- Test float switch: Use a multimeter to check continuity of the float switch while manually moving it. Replace if it does not open/close properly.
- Check wiring and control: Inspect the harness from the float/sensor to the control board for shorts or damage. If the float is working but the valve continues to fill, the control board water fill relay may be stuck closed.
- Replace faulty parts: Replace the KitchenAid float switch or water level sensor first. If overfill persists, replace the main control board.
