Possible Causes
Blocked water pump inlet, Failed circulation pump, Airlock in pump, Broken pump impeller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker and drain water before removing the pump.
- Check water level: Ensure the reservoir is adequately filled. Very low water can cause the pump to suck air and trigger an error.
- Clean pump filter: Locate the small mesh or plastic filter at the pump inlet (usually at the bottom of the reservoir). Remove debris, scale, or slime and rinse thoroughly.
- Bleed airlock: After cleaning, refill the reservoir and tilt the unit slightly forward and backward to help release trapped air from the pump.
- Test pump operation: With the cover off and unit plugged in, start a cycle and observe whether water is being pumped over the evaporator tray. If the pump is silent or just hums, it may be seized and require replacement.
Persistent E8 after cleaning and bleeding usually indicates a failed water circulation pump.
