Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the Koldfront ice maker from the wall outlet before removing any panels or touching internal wiring.
Steps to check and address E1:
- Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then plug it back in and see if E1 clears. If it returns, continue.
- Access the sensor: Remove the rear or side service panel (depending on model) to access the wiring harness and sensors mounted on the cabinet wall or near the evaporator area.
- Inspect wiring: Look for broken, pinched, or corroded wires leading to the ambient temperature sensor. Reseat the sensor connector on the main control board.
- Check sensor resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the service chart (typically 5–20 kΩ depending on temperature). If it reads open (OL) or 0 Ω, the sensor is defective.
- Replace sensor: If faulty, remove the old ambient temperature sensor from its clip or bracket, install the new Koldfront-compatible sensor, route the wires along the original path, and reconnect to the control board.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall panels, restore power, and run a full ice-making cycle to confirm the error is cleared.
When to call a technician: If the sensor tests good but E1 persists, the main control board may be defective and should be diagnosed by a professional.
