Possible Causes
Failed ice bin level sensor, blocked or dirty infrared ice level sensor window, disconnected sensor harness, faulty control board input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before working inside the ice maker.
Steps to resolve E2:
- Empty the bin: Remove all ice from the storage bin and check if the error clears after a restart. Sometimes a jammed ice pile can block the sensor.
- Clean the sensor: Locate the ice level sensor (often an infrared emitter/receiver pair near the top of the bin). Clean the sensor windows with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, then dry thoroughly.
- Check alignment: Ensure the emitter and receiver are aligned and not bent out of position.
- Inspect wiring: With power unplugged, inspect the sensor harness for loose plugs or damaged wires. Reseat connectors at both the sensor and control board.
- Test operation: Restore power and run a cycle. If E2 returns immediately, the sensor may be defective.
- Replace sensor: Remove mounting screws or clips, disconnect the old ice level sensor, install the new Koldfront-compatible sensor assembly, and reconnect wiring.
Note: If a new sensor does not resolve E2, the main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may require replacement.
