Possible Causes

Clogged water inlet filter screen, failed water inlet valve, kinked or pinched water supply line, low household water pressure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Turn off the water supply and unplug the unit before servicing.

Steps to address E3:

  • Check water supply: Confirm the shutoff valve to the ice maker is fully open and that household water pressure is adequate (typically 20–80 psi).
  • Inspect supply line: Look for kinks, pinches, or sharp bends in the water line feeding the ice maker. Straighten or replace as needed.
  • Clean inlet screen: Remove the rear access panel to reach the water inlet valve. Shut off water, disconnect the inlet line, and remove any debris from the valve’s filter screen using a small brush.
  • Test valve operation: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the valve coil connectors and measure coil resistance with a multimeter. A reading of open circuit or very high resistance indicates a bad valve.
  • Replace water inlet valve: If faulty, remove mounting screws, disconnect tubing and wiring, install the new Koldfront-compatible water inlet valve, and reconnect lines and wires. Check for leaks after turning water back on.
  • Restart and test: Restore power and run a full cycle to confirm E3 is cleared and water fills properly.
