Possible Causes

Failed ice thickness sensor, mineral buildup on ice thickness probe, misaligned thickness sensor, damaged sensor wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Disconnect power and shut off water before working near the evaporator and ice-making area.

Steps to address E5:

  • Clean the probe: Locate the ice thickness sensor or probe near the evaporator plate. Use a soft cloth and a mixture of warm water and white vinegar to remove scale and mineral deposits.
  • Check alignment: Ensure the thickness probe is positioned correctly relative to the evaporator plate as per the user manual. Adjust if bent or out of place.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board, checking for damage or loose connectors. Reseat the connector.
  • Test sensor: If accessible, measure sensor resistance or continuity according to the service manual. Replace if readings are out of specification.
  • Replace thickness sensor: Remove mounting screws or clips, disconnect the old sensor, install the new Koldfront-compatible ice thickness sensor, and route wiring along the original path.
  • Run test cycle: Restore power and water, then run a full cycle to confirm proper ice thickness and that E5 is cleared.
