Possible Causes
Freezer fan motor failure, Fan blades obstructed by ice, Fan motor harness loose, Main PCB fan drive failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing freezer panels.
- Listen for fan: With doors closed and unit running (before disconnecting), listen near the freezer for fan noise. A loud grinding or no sound at all indicates a fan issue.
- Access fan: Remove freezer drawers and rear panel to expose the evaporator fan motor.
- Check for ice: Inspect for ice buildup around the fan shroud. If present, defrost the area fully. Verify the defrost drain is not clogged.
- Spin fan by hand: With power off, spin the fan blades. If stiff or wobbly, replace the fan motor assembly.
- Inspect wiring: Ensure the fan connector is fully seated and wires are intact.
- Test after reassembly: Restore power and confirm the fan runs. If ER 1F returns with a known-good fan, the main control board may need replacement.
