Possible Causes
Defrost sensor thermistor open or shorted, Thermistor not properly attached to evaporator, Thermistor harness damaged, Main PCB sensor circuit fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before testing sensors.
- Locate thermistor: Remove the freezer rear panel to find the defrost/evaporator thermistor clipped to the evaporator tubing.
- Inspect mounting: Ensure the thermistor is firmly clipped to the tubing and not hanging loose. Reattach if necessary.
- Check wiring: Inspect the thermistor wires for cuts, pinches, or corrosion at the connector. Repair or replace as needed.
- Measure resistance: Using a multimeter, measure thermistor resistance at a known temperature and compare to LG specifications. Replace the thermistor if readings are out of range or open/shorted.
- Control board: If a new thermistor does not clear the dS error, the main control board sensor input may be defective and require replacement.
