Possible Causes

Ice room fan motor seized, Ice room fan motor wiring harness loose or damaged, Ice room fan blades obstructed by frost, Main control board fan drive failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator or switch off the circuit breaker before servicing. Do not work around moving fan blades with power applied.

  • Check for frost buildup: Remove the ice bin and ice room cover. Inspect the ice room fan area for heavy frost or ice blocking the fan blades. If present, leave doors open and unplugged for 24 hours to fully defrost, or carefully melt ice with a hair dryer on low, keeping it away from plastic and wiring.
  • Spin the fan by hand: With power still off, gently spin the ice room fan blades. If they do not spin freely or feel rough, the fan motor is likely failing and should be replaced.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the fan motor connector and harness for loose plugs, corrosion, or damaged wires. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • Test fan operation: Restore power and activate ice making (or run diagnostic mode if available). Listen for the fan running in the ice room. If the fan does not run but receives power, replace the ice room fan motor.
  • Control board check: If a known-good fan motor does not run and wiring is intact, the main PCB may not be sending voltage and may require replacement by a qualified technician.
