Possible Causes
Ice maker solenoid on inlet valve failed, Ice maker fill tube frozen, Ice maker control not sending fill signal, Wiring harness to valve damaged
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off water supply and unplug the refrigerator before servicing.
- Check fill tube: Inspect the ice maker fill tube for ice blockage. Thaw if frozen using warm towels or a hair dryer on low.
- Test ice maker: Run the ice maker test cycle. Listen for the water fill at the end of the harvest. If no fill sound, suspect the valve or control.
- Test valve coil: With a multimeter, measure resistance of the ice maker solenoid on the water inlet valve. Replace the valve if the coil is open.
- Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the ice maker to the valve for continuity and secure connections.
- Replace ice maker: If the valve and wiring are good but the ice maker never calls for water, replace the ice maker assembly.
