Possible Causes
Open or shorted mold thermistor, Poor thermistor contact with ice tray, Damaged thermistor wiring, Control board misinterpretation of sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the ice maker wiring.
- Access thermistor: Remove the ice bin and any cover to locate the small sensor attached to or embedded in the ice tray or mold.
- Inspect attachment: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the mold surface and not hanging loose. Re-secure with thermal tape if necessary.
- Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the connector. Look for cuts, abrasions, or signs of stretching. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Connector check: Unplug and reconnect the thermistor connector to clear any oxidation.
- Reset and observe: Restore power and clear the error by cycling the ice maker OFF/ON. If E2 reappears, the thermistor is likely out of specification and the ice maker or sensor harness must be replaced.
