Possible Causes
Ice maker motor drawing excessive current, Mechanical binding in ice tray, Foreign object in ice maker, Shorted motor windings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before touching the ice maker.
- Remove obstructions: Take out the ice bin and inspect the ice maker for any foreign objects (plastic, packaging, broken parts) lodged in the mechanism.
- Clear stuck ice: If large chunks of ice are wedged in the tray or ejector, allow them to melt slightly or use warm water to free them. Do not force the mechanism.
- Check for damage: Look for cracked plastic parts, bent ejector fingers, or misaligned components that could cause binding.
- Reset and test: Restore power and reset the ice maker via the control panel. If E5 returns quickly, the motor is likely failing and the entire ice maker assembly should be replaced.
