Possible Causes

Clogged water inlet screen, Failed water inlet valve coil, Kinked or pinched water supply line, Low household water pressure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker and close the water supply valve before servicing.

  • Verify water supply: Ensure the water shutoff valve feeding the ice maker is fully open. Check that the supply hose is not kinked or crushed behind the unit.
  • Inspect inlet filter screen: Disconnect the water line from the back of the ice maker. At the water inlet valve, look for a small mesh screen. Rinse debris under running water and reinstall.
  • Check water flow: Briefly open the supply line into a bucket to confirm strong water flow from the house plumbing. Weak flow indicates a plumbing or valve issue upstream.
  • Test the inlet valve coil: Remove the rear panel to access the water inlet valve assembly. With the unit unplugged, disconnect the valve wiring and measure coil resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit (OL) or extremely high resistance indicates a failed valve.
  • Look for leaks or mineral buildup: Inspect the valve body for cracks, corrosion, or heavy scale that may prevent proper operation.
  • Replace if needed: If the coil is open or the valve is stuck, replace the water inlet valve with a compatible Magic Chef part. Reconnect the water line, restore power and water, and run a test cycle to confirm E2 is cleared.
