Possible Causes

Failed cabinet/ambient thermistor, Loose thermistor connector, Damaged sensor harness near cabinet wall

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.

  • Locate ambient sensor: The ambient thermistor is typically mounted near the air intake or on the interior wall away from the evaporator. Refer to the service diagram if available.
  • Visual inspection: Check for moisture damage, corrosion, or broken wires at the sensor head and connector.
  • Measure resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to Magic Chef specifications. A reading of 0 Ω or OL indicates a short or open sensor.
  • Check harness routing: Ensure the harness is not pinched between panels or cut by sharp metal edges.
  • Replace sensor: If readings are out of range or the sensor is damaged, install a new ambient thermistor. Secure it in the same location and orientation as the original.
  • Reset and test: Reconnect power and run a full cycle to confirm E6 is cleared and the unit operates normally.
