Possible Causes
Failed compressor relay on main control board, Burned compressor wiring connector, Shorted compressor winding
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before removing panels. High voltage is present at the compressor terminals.
- Inspect compressor wiring: Remove the rear panel and check the wiring harness from the control board to the compressor. Look for burned or loose connectors.
- Check board relay: On the main control board, locate the compressor relay (often a small rectangular component). Inspect for burn marks or cracked solder joints on the underside of the PCB.
- Test compressor windings: With the start components removed, measure resistance between the compressor terminals (C‑R, C‑S, R‑S). Compare to specifications. A dead short or open winding indicates a failed compressor.
- Repair or replace: If the compressor tests good but the relay is visibly damaged or not energizing (no click, no output voltage), replace the main control board. If the compressor windings are faulty, a sealed system technician must replace the compressor.
