Possible Causes
Stuck‑open drain valve, Failed drain pump stuck on, Shorted drain pump triac on control board, Debris lodged in drain mechanism
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and close the water supply before servicing. Expect residual water in hoses.
- Inspect drain hose: Check that the external drain hose is not routed too low or creating a siphon effect. Ensure it is not kinked or blocked.
- Access drain assembly: Remove the rear or bottom panel to reach the internal drain pump or drain valve.
- Check for debris: Remove the pump inlet cover or valve body and look for ice chips, scale, or foreign objects preventing proper closure. Clean thoroughly.
- Test pump operation: With the pump disconnected, measure coil resistance. An open coil indicates a failed pump. If the pump runs constantly whenever the unit is powered, the control board output may be shorted.
- Replace components: Replace a stuck or leaking drain valve or a failed drain pump. If the pump is always energized due to a board fault, the main control board will also need replacement.
