Possible Causes

Dirty condenser coil, Failed condenser fan motor, Blocked or restricted airflow around condenser, Faulty high pressure switch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power to the ice maker at the breaker before removing panels. Use cut‑resistant gloves; sharp sheet metal edges are present.

Steps to check and correct:

  • Inspect airflow: Verify the Manitowoc ice machine has proper clearance on all sides per the installation manual. Remove any boxes or objects blocking the front, sides, or top air intake/exhaust.
  • Clean the condenser coil: Remove the front panel. Locate the condenser coil (usually near the condenser fan). Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and grease. For heavy grease, use a non‑acidic coil cleaner, following the product instructions. Allow to dry completely.
  • Check condenser fan operation: Restore power briefly and observe the condenser fan motor. If the fan does not start or is noisy or slow, disconnect power again and plan to replace the condenser fan motor.
  • Reset high pressure switch: Some Manitowoc models have a manual reset high pressure switch on the refrigeration line near the compressor. With power off, press the reset button if present. If the switch trips again quickly, do not keep resetting; investigate airflow and refrigeration issues.
  • Check for hot ambient conditions: Confirm the room temperature is within Manitowoc’s specified range (typically 40–110°F). Excessive ambient heat can cause high head pressure.

When to call a technician: If the E01 returns after cleaning and verifying airflow, a sealed system issue (overcharge, non‑condensables, or restriction) or a defective high pressure switch may exist. These require EPA‑certified refrigeration service.
