Possible Causes

Low refrigerant charge, Restricted capillary tube or TXV, Evaporator coil icing or blockage, Faulty low pressure switch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing panels. Do not attempt to connect gauges or add refrigerant unless you are EPA‑certified.

Basic checks you can do:

  • Check air and water filters: Ensure any external air filters are clean and that the water filter (if installed) is not clogged, as poor water flow can cause freeze‑up.
  • Inspect evaporator for ice buildup: Remove the front panel and observe the evaporator grid. If it is a solid block of ice and not releasing during harvest, the machine may be running too long or not harvesting properly. Clean the evaporator with Manitowoc‑approved ice machine cleaner and sanitizer.
  • Verify water flow: Check that the water inlet valve is supplying adequate water and that the water curtain or water distribution tube is not blocked with scale.
  • Reset the machine: After correcting obvious issues, power the unit off for 5 minutes, then restart and monitor. If E02 reappears quickly, stop using the machine.

When to call a technician: Persistent E02 usually indicates a refrigerant issue (leak, restriction, or faulty low pressure switch). A Manitowoc‑qualified refrigeration technician should check suction pressure, superheat, and the low pressure control.
