Possible Causes

Scaled evaporator surface, Insufficient hot gas flow, Sticking harvest valve, Low water temperature or low ambient temperature

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and allow hot gas lines to cool before touching. Shut off water if removing water components.

Steps:

  • Clean evaporator thoroughly: Mineral scale can prevent cubes from releasing. Use Manitowoc‑approved cleaner on the evaporator plate and water system, then sanitize.
  • Check harvest valve: Locate the hot gas / harvest valve in the refrigeration compartment. Inspect wiring and coil connection. Listen for a click when the unit enters harvest (requires powered test). If the valve does not energize, the coil may be faulty.
  • Verify water curtain operation: On models with a water curtain, ensure it swings freely and is not obstructed by ice buildup. A stuck curtain can cause harvest faults.
  • Check ambient conditions: Very cold room temperatures can slow harvest. Ensure the machine is installed within Manitowoc’s specified ambient range.

Repairs: If the harvest valve coil is open or the valve is stuck, replace the hot gas / harvest valve assembly. If E09 persists, a technician should check system pressures and control logic.
