Possible Causes

Dirty bin interior, Biofilm or scale in water system, Old or saturated water filter, Contaminated water supply

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and close water supply. Discard all existing ice before cleaning.

Steps:

  • Clean and sanitize bin: Remove all ice. Wash the bin interior with mild detergent, rinse, then sanitize with Manitowoc‑approved sanitizer. Allow to air dry.
  • Clean water system: Run a full cleaning and sanitizing cycle per Manitowoc instructions, treating the evaporator, water trough, and distribution tube.
  • Replace water filter: Install a new Manitowoc‑approved filter cartridge to remove taste and odor contaminants.
  • Check water source: If taste persists, test the building water supply. Consider additional filtration or treatment if the source water is problematic.

Note: It may take one or two full bin dumps of new ice for taste to normalize after cleaning.
