Ice maker frequently freezes up with solid blocks of ice around the evaporator or in the sump.

Safety first: Disconnect power and close water supply. Do not chip ice off coils with sharp tools.

Steps:

• Thaw the machine: Allow the unit to sit off until all ice blockages melt. Use towels to manage water.
• Check drain and valve: Clear the drain line and verify the water inlet valve fully closes when not energized (no dripping into the trough).
• Inspect sensors: Check evaporator and water temperature sensors for proper mounting and wiring. Replace faulty sensors.
• Verify ambient temperature: Ensure the machine is not installed in a space below Manitowoc’s minimum ambient temperature, which can cause control issues.
