Possible Causes

Failed bin thermistor, mispositioned bin sensor, broken sensor harness, defective control board input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before working inside the cabinet or near the evaporator and bin area.

Inspection and test:

  • Open the door and locate the bin thermistor or ice level sensor. On many Marvel ice makers this is mounted on the side wall of the bin or near the top of the ice level area.
  • Check that the sensor is firmly mounted and not buried in ice or hanging loose. A sensor that is not in the correct position can falsely indicate a full bin.
  • Remove any ice buildup around the sensor and allow it to thaw if encased in frost.
  • Access the sensor connector (often behind an interior panel or at the control board). Disconnect it and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to Marvel’s temperature/resistance chart. Replace the sensor if readings are open, shorted, or far out of range.
  • Inspect the harness from the bin sensor to the control board for damage, corrosion, or loose pins. Repair or replace as needed.
  • Install a new Marvel bin thermistor/ice level sensor if faulty, reconnect, and restore power. Clear the error by cycling power and confirm that the unit now starts ice production.

If the sensor and wiring test good but E2 remains, the main control board’s sensor input may be defective and should be evaluated by a technician.
