Possible Causes
Blocked condenser airflow, dirty condenser coil, failed condenser fan motor, high ambient temperature, defective high‑temperature sensor or thermal cutoff
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before cleaning or accessing the condenser area.
Steps:
- Pull the Marvel ice maker out from under the counter enough to access the front or rear grille (depending on model).
- Remove the grille and visually inspect the condenser coil. If it is covered in dust or pet hair, clean it thoroughly with a soft brush and vacuum. Avoid bending the fins.
- Check that the condenser fan blade spins freely by hand. If it is seized, noisy, or wobbly, the condenser fan motor likely needs replacement.
- Restore power and observe whether the condenser fan runs whenever the compressor is running. If the compressor runs but the fan does not, test the fan motor for proper voltage at its connector. Replace the condenser fan motor if it has power but does not run.
- Ensure the unit has adequate ventilation per Marvel installation specs (usually several inches of clearance at the front grille and no blocked toe‑kick).
- After correcting airflow issues, reset the unit by disconnecting power for 5 minutes, then restoring it. Monitor for recurrence of E4.
If E4 returns despite good airflow and a working fan, the high‑temperature sensor or control board may be faulty and should be tested by a technician.
