Possible Causes
Exceeded run time without cleaning, scaled water system, dirty sensors causing false error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and shut off water before performing a deep clean. Use only Maytag-approved ice machine cleaner and sanitizer.
- Run cleaning cycle: Many Maytag ice makers have a dedicated clean button or mode. Follow the user manual to start a cleaning cycle with the recommended cleaner.
- Manual cleaning: Remove the ice bin, evaporator cover, and accessible water distribution parts. Soak in cleaner solution to remove scale, then rinse thoroughly.
- Clean sensors: Wipe down the ice thickness probe, bin sensor, and water level float with cleaner, then rinse.
- Sanitize: After descaling, run a sanitizer solution through the water system per Maytag instructions, then flush with fresh water.
- Reset indicator: After cleaning, press and hold the clean or reset button as specified in the manual to clear the maintenance error.
