Ice maker indicates low ambient temperature error, unit will not run in cold room

Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing sensors. Do not operate the ice maker in freezing conditions.

• Check room temperature: Use a thermometer to verify the ambient temperature. Most Maytag ice makers require 55–100°F for proper operation.
• Relocate unit: If the ice maker is installed in a garage or unheated space, move it to a conditioned area or provide supplemental heating.
• Inspect ambient sensor: Locate the ambient thermistor (often near the air intake). Check for damage or loose wiring.
• Test thermistor: Measure resistance at room temperature and compare to Maytag specs. Replace if out of range.
• Control board: If the sensor is good but the error persists, the control board may be misreading the sensor and require replacement.
