Possible Causes
Stuck water level float, failed water level sensor, mineral buildup on float assembly, wiring issue between float and control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker and shut off the water supply before servicing the water system.
- Remove ice bin and front panel: Gain access to the reservoir and float assembly.
- Inspect float: Locate the Maytag water level float or optical sensor near the reservoir. Check if the float moves freely up and down. If it is stuck due to scale or debris, clean it.
- Descale float area: Mix a manufacturer-approved ice machine cleaner with warm water. Soak and scrub the float, reservoir, and surrounding area to remove mineral deposits. Rinse thoroughly.
- Check wiring: Inspect the float switch or sensor harness for damage or loose connections at both the sensor and control board.
- Test float switch: If it is a mechanical switch, disconnect and test continuity with a multimeter while moving the float. Replace if it does not open/close properly.
- Replace sensor: If it is an electronic water level sensor and cleaning does not resolve the issue, replace the sensor assembly according to the service manual.
