Ice maker displays error and shuts down shortly after starting, compressor may not run

Safety first: Disconnect power before cleaning or accessing internal components. Do not attempt sealed system repairs unless EPA-certified.

• Check ventilation: Ensure the Maytag ice maker has proper clearance on all sides and the rear per installation instructions. Move it away from walls or cabinets if airflow is blocked.
• Clean condenser coil: Remove the lower front or rear access panel. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the condenser coil. Avoid bending fins.
• Inspect condenser fan: Confirm the condenser fan spins freely by hand. Restore power briefly and verify the fan runs when the compressor starts. If it hums or does not start, replace the fan motor.
• Check for kinks: Inspect refrigerant lines for obvious kinks or damage (visual only). Do not cut or open lines.
• Call a technician: If the error persists after cleaning and fan replacement, a sealed system issue (restriction, overcharge, or faulty high-pressure switch) may exist and requires a qualified technician.
