Possible Causes
Clogged water inlet screen, failed water inlet valve, low household water pressure, kinked or frozen inlet line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the water supply and disconnect power before working on the water system.
- Check supply line: Inspect the copper or braided line feeding the Maytag ice maker for kinks or sharp bends. Straighten or replace as needed.
- Verify water pressure: Open the shutoff valve fully. If possible, disconnect the line at the ice maker and briefly open the valve into a bucket to confirm strong flow.
- Clean inlet screen: Remove the rear access panel to reach the water inlet valve. Disconnect the inlet line and inspect the valve screen for debris. Clean with a small brush and water.
- Test valve coil: Disconnect the electrical connector and measure coil resistance with a multimeter. Compare to Maytag specs. Replace the valve if open or shorted.
- Check for freezing: In cold locations, ensure the inlet line and valve are not frozen. Thaw gently with warm towels; do not use open flame.
- Replace valve: If cleaning and testing indicate a bad valve, install a new OEM water inlet valve, reconnect lines with new compression fittings if needed, and check for leaks.
