Possible Causes
Defective optical ice level sensor, Blocked or dirty sensor window, Faulty mechanical bin switch, Loose harness to level sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working inside the ice compartment.
- Clean sensor windows: Many Miele ice makers use an optical sensor. Locate the emitter and receiver windows near the bin opening. Clean gently with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, then dry completely.
- Check for obstructions: Ensure the ice bin is properly seated and not overfilled or misaligned, which can block the sensor.
- Inspect mechanical switch (if used): Some models use a lever or micro-switch. Move the lever by hand and listen for a click. If no click or the lever is loose, the switch may be faulty.
- Harness check: Trace the wiring from the sensor or switch back to the control board. Reseat connectors and look for pin damage.
- Test in diagnostics: Enter service mode and view the ice level sensor status. If it always reads "bin full" or "bin empty" regardless of actual condition, replace the sensor assembly.
Note: After cleaning or replacing the sensor, power-cycle the unit to clear the F13 fault.
