Possible Causes
Failed ice compartment fan motor, Ice buildup blocking fan blades, Faulty fan driver circuit on control board, Loose or corroded fan connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working near moving parts.
- Check for airflow: With the door closed and unit running, you should feel cold air near the ice maker vents. If not, suspect the fan.
- Inspect fan area: Remove the interior panel covering the fan. Look for ice buildup around the blades. If present, defrost the area completely and check door gaskets for air leaks.
- Spin test: With power off, spin the fan blades by hand. If stiff or seized, replace the fan motor.
- Electrical test: With power on and a call for cooling, measure voltage at the fan connector. If voltage is present but the fan does not run, replace the fan motor. If no voltage, suspect the control board.
- Reassemble: After repair, ensure all panels and seals are correctly reinstalled to maintain proper airflow.
Warning: Never insert fingers or tools into a running fan.
