Possible Causes

Worn ice compartment fan motor bearings, Worn auger motor bearings, Fan blade rubbing on ice or housing, Debris caught in fan

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing fans or motors.

  • Locate noise: Open the door and listen near the ice compartment and rear panel to pinpoint the source.
  • Inspect fan: Remove the interior cover to access the ice compartment fan. Check for ice or debris rubbing on the blades. Clear obstructions.
  • Spin test: Spin the fan by hand. If it feels rough or wobbly, replace the fan motor.
  • Check auger motor: Run the dispenser (if present). If squealing occurs only during dispensing, the auger motor bearings may be worn and require replacement.

Note: Lubricating sealed motor bearings is not recommended; replacement is the proper fix.
