Possible Causes
Open evaporator thermistor, shorted evaporator thermistor, damaged thermistor harness, failed main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the ice maker or switch off the dedicated circuit breaker before servicing. Water and electricity are both present—use caution.
- Power reset: Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then restore power to see if the E1 code clears. If it returns, continue.
- Access thermistor: Remove the front kick plate and lower panel as needed. Access the evaporator area behind the ice-making compartment. The evaporator thermistor is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing.
- Inspect wiring: Check the thermistor leads and connector for corrosion, broken wires, or loose connections at the main control board.
- Test thermistor: With power still disconnected, disconnect the thermistor from the harness and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to Monogram service specs (typically around 10kΩ at 77°F / 25°C). An open or shorted reading indicates a bad thermistor.
- Replace if faulty: If readings are out of range, replace the evaporator thermistor. Clip the new sensor in the same location and route wires away from sharp edges and moving parts.
- Check control board: If the thermistor tests good but E1 persists, inspect the main control board for burnt components or corrosion and consider replacement.
