Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay, open compressor start winding, defective overload protector, failing compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power at the breaker before accessing the compressor compartment. High voltage is present.
- Listen for compressor: When the unit calls for cooling, listen for the compressor starting. Clicking followed by silence often indicates a start device issue.
- Inspect start components: Remove the rear or side access panel to reach the compressor. Carefully remove the start relay and overload from the compressor terminals and inspect for burns or rattling parts.
- Replace start device: If the relay or overload shows signs of failure, replace the compressor start relay and overload with the correct Monogram parts.
- Compressor test: If new start components do not resolve E14 and the compressor still will not run or draws locked-rotor current, the compressor itself may be failed and will require professional replacement.
