Possible Causes

Failed drain pump motor, clogged drain hose, blocked internal drain channel, kinked external drain line

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the ice maker and shut off water. Have towels ready; water may spill when hoses are disconnected.

  • Check external drain: Inspect the external drain hose for kinks, sags, or clogs. Clear any obstruction and ensure the hose has proper slope to the drain.
  • Clean internal drain: Remove the bin and access panels to reach the internal drain trough and sump. Remove debris, scale, or ice that may be blocking flow.
  • Inspect drain pump: Locate the drain pump assembly. Check for loose wiring or signs of water intrusion into the motor housing.
  • Test pump: With power restored briefly, listen for the pump during a drain cycle. If it hums but does not move water, or is silent, the pump is likely failed and should be replaced.
  • Reassemble and test: After clearing lines and/or replacing the pump, run a test cycle to confirm proper draining and that E8 does not return.
