Possible Causes

Overheated compressor, Blocked condenser coil, Failed condenser fan motor, Faulty compressor overload protector or thermistor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before cleaning or servicing. Allow hot components to cool.

Cooling system checks:

  • Ventilation: Ensure the ice maker has adequate clearance on all sides and is not installed in a confined, unventilated space. Move it away from walls or heat sources if necessary.
  • Clean condenser coil: Remove the rear or side panel to access the condenser. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the fins. Do not bend the fins.
  • Check condenser fan: Spin the fan blade by hand (with power off). It should move freely. If it is seized, noisy, or not running during operation, replace the condenser fan motor.
  • Inspect compressor overload: The overload protector is usually clipped to the compressor terminals. Check for signs of overheating or burning. If the compressor is extremely hot to the touch, allow it to cool fully before restarting.
  • Restart and monitor: After cleaning and ensuring proper airflow, plug the unit back in and observe. If E5 returns quickly, the overload or compressor may be failing.
  • Component replacement: Replace a faulty condenser fan motor or compressor overload protector as needed. If the compressor itself is failing, professional replacement is required.

Warning: Do not bypass safety devices like overload protectors. If the compressor continues to overheat, contact a technician.
